Performance Troupe
Dance Innovations is committed to promoting dance and the performing arts in the community of Yorkton. During the 1996-1997 season, the Performance Troupe presented their first performance of the Lion King. This toured around the city visiting every school as well as various other venues. Since then the opportunities for the children to perform have continued.
For five years, the Dance Innovations Performance Troupe hosted the Yorkton Christmas Review. This was a performance that invited various groups such as ethnic dancing, bands and choirs, to perform during one show for the purpose of youth organizations. It was our way of showing that through dance and music, our children could make a difference.
Significant funds were raised for organizations such as Shelwin House, Salvation Army, Yorkton Public Library, Pre-school Playland and Boys and Girls Club, to name a few. All of the participants were very proud of the accomplishments that were made.
Students who are looking for even more of a challenge and additional opportunities may choose to take part in the competitive program. Students travel to two or three competitions per year and in the past have earned several top awards representing Yorkton very well. This opportunity of performing and competing along with peers not only brings about a feeling of accomplishment, but also reminds our students of the close friendships that have developed.
In May of 2006, the Performance Troupe hosted the first annual Parkland Dance Festival. Committee members are currently planning the 3rd Annual Competition which has proven to be an awesome event, focusing on positive experiences for all dancers.
In the summer of 2002, Dance Innovations traveled to Las Vegas with students to participate in the Tremaine Dance convention. Since then, the studio has traveled to a new location every two years to offer students more opportunities to further their dance education. In the summer of 2008, more the 30 students and their families will travel to Los Angeles/Disneyland to participate in Dance the Magic. This event will allow the students to dance in front of an international audience, parade down Mainstreet and participate in workshops by Disney choreographers.
The opportunities for the children are endless. Whether it is competition, performances, or workshops with internationally-recognized instructors, Dance Innovations is always pursuing more opportunities for the students.
