We ask that every family take responsibility to check the website on a regular basis. However, we strongly encourage you to check the website for weekly updates.
DUAL STUDIO ENROLMENT
Dance Innovations offers quality dance education in a variety of disciplines. Any student wishing to attend classes at another studio must obtain permission from the Artistic Director.
There will be two weeks in which parents may sit in on their child’s class. These dates are to be announced later in the year.
A.D.A.P.T. Jazz and Tap and RAD ballet exams are set for November/December, as well as some RAD exams during the month of March. Dance Innovations considers exams an integral part of dance education and they are expected of our competitive students. Extra exam classes may be held if required. Please note, during exam days, the instructor reserves the right to cancel regular classes.
All students P2 Ballet and J1 Tap/Jazz and up are welcome to participate in competition at the group level which will be rehearsed during class. If you are not interested in having your child participate in competition, you are encouraged to register in the Recreational classes. Extra competition work is only for the committed dancer. Instructors will select student for out-of-class groups or solo/duet work based on effort in class and previous competition experience. Participation in exams is also required. Not all classes will participate in out-of-town competitions. The level and commitment of dancers will be assessed at the beginning of the year and parents will be notified as to what competition each class will be attending. Please keep in mind that we have the child’s best interest at heart when making these decisions.
Most classes will have their dances choreographed by their assigned instructors, however, on occasion the studio will bring in choreographers to work with the students. If there is a choreographer hired, there will be a choreography surcharge not to exceed $90 invoiced to all students in that particular class. This fee will include all extra classes required to learn the new choreography and will be assessed on an individual basis.
All students, except those registered in sessional classes, will participate in the Year End production during the weekend of May 25-28 or June 1-4. This is the student’s chance to perform and show their family and friends what they have accomplished during the year. If your child is unavailable for any aspect of rehearsal during this weekend, please let the studio know that your child will not be available to participate in the Production.
QUESTIONS & CONCERNS
All instructors at Dance Innovations are educated and experienced in teaching dance to children. However, we also know that nobody knows a child better than his/her parent. If at anytime any questions arise, please do not hesitate to discuss them with your child’s instructor or the Director. We ask that you do this during non-teaching hours so that the instructor may give you their full attention without taking away from another child’s class.
This is an extremely important aspect of dance. Hair must be in a bun or off of the neck for ballet and tied back in a ponytail or something similar for jazz, tap or creative dance. Proper dance attire must be worn at all times. In chilly weather, a zip-up hoodie can be worn for the beginning of class. Please allow your child to understand the importance of being properly prepared for their class. A studio dancewear list is available here.
